Government urged to act swiftly to safeguard patients

Today, the Independent Healthcare Advisory Services (IHAS) welcomes the recommendations from the Department of Health Review of the Regulation of Cosmetic Interventions led by Professor Sir Bruce Keogh into regulating the cosmetic industry.

Sally Taber, Director of the Independent Healthcare Advisory Services and responsible for managing www.TreatmentsYouCanTrust.org.uk says, "The successful implementation of these recommendations on non-surgical procedures to ensure patient safety relies on two things. First, to end bad practice, the new qualification for cosmetic injectables must be underpinned by medical knowledge to ensure these medical treatments are administered safely. Second, it is important that these recommendations are executed swiftly to stop patients falling through the net. IHAS will be happy to utilise its existing framework and established industry guidelines to work constructively with the Government to expedite the process."

Meeting Francis: implications of the Mid Staffs Inquiry and Government Response for Independent Healthcare, 10th June, 13h00–17h10 in London

IHAS is pleased to announce this unique opportunity for members to attend this joint seminar with Bevan Brittan. The seminar is designed solely for independent sector providers to take forward the key lessons and opportunities from the Francis report.

IHAS Responsible Officer Service

IHAS is about to commence this service which will offer an external Responsible Officer (RO) service to smaller designated bodies that have not appointed their own RO. It will be an application process to ensure the suitability of the applying designated body. IHAS is pleased to announce that Dr Stephen Drotske will be the IHAS service RO and we envisage releasing this sevice to start in May 2013.

Association of Independent Healthcare Organisations  incorporates IHAS

The Association of Independent Healthcare Organisations (AIHO), formerly the Private Hospitals Association has announced that IHAS has now become a division of the trade body.

The incorporation of IHAS provides an opportunity to redefine the ways in which the independent sector can work to help deliver a sustainable health system for 21st century Britain.

Sally Taber continues as director of IHAS, as a division of AIHO and will also sit on the senior management operations board of the new Association. The IHAS executive have all transferred ensuring IHAS continues to provide the same level of service and consistency.
